Thomas Allen, aged 80 years one of the prominentely known residents of the county died Sunday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William McGinnis at Marshall where he has been living recently. He was a resident of Jackson Township for many years and served as teacher in the public schools of Parke and Fountain county from 1869-1894 (? on last # - cut partially off). He gave up this profession when he was appointed to the Intrnal Revenue Department and was in its service for four years. Mr. Allen was a man of high educational ideas and was well trained in this work. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church of near Marshall. His parents were William and Serilda M. Key Allen and were early settlers of Jackson Township where he was born and reared. His wife, Catherine Myers Allen, preceded him in death by six years. There are surviving two sons, Harry Allen and William Allen both living at Hillsboro and one brother, HD Allen of Wallace. Funeral serv ices were held Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist Church near Marshall with burial at Wolf Creek Cemetery. - kbz
